1. Critically review a local art/ design exhibition in-depth. Discuss it in terms of its curatorial goals and exhibition design with related research.
I am not an avid visitor to art galleries and exhibitions so this is one question that I am going to leave out. "Discuss it in terms of its curatorial goals and exhibition design with related research." From my understanding, we have to evaluate if the gallery has successfully brought out the best in the work being displayed. Has the work been displayed truly proved it's worth? How was the ambiance? Did it fit with the theme of the artwork that the artist wanted? Was it well curated?
2. Compare and contrast the relationship of celebrities with their fans in two different creative communities. Which one is relatively more healthy in their connections?
Fan bases. There are two sides to fan bases, there are the good ones and then there are the toxic ones. What some of these toxic fan bases do are they bash and belittle anyone that comments something negative about their idol. One example is when IOI, a Korean girl group won an award for the best new female artist. Fans of Black Pink, another group showed their disappointment by commenting how IOI don't deserve to win, how Black Pink is the true winner etc.
3. Examine the issue of cultural appropriation within a domain of beauty, fashion or music industry. Why are some communities cautious of, or against this practice?
Ooh! When I first read through all the other choices, this one certainly piques my interest the most. Celebrities that got in trouble for cultural appropriation were Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Beyonce and much more. These celebs dressed a certain way by copying a certain culture's style that is not their own and treating it as an accessory or costume. This practice frowned upon because it is disrespectful and insulting to the culture.
4. What are some issues and best practices for design in multilingual communities? Write from the perspective of either a graphic designer or interactive designer.
I guess when it comes to designing for like let's say a poster that will be on display in a multicultural community, one must take into account of the language chosen. Which language is spoken the most in that particular area? The dominant language will be used as the primary text whereas the secondary language is usually smaller. There are also instances where booklets are printed in both languages, for example, the first half section of the book is printed in English and the second half is in Malay. This compromise allows designers to not sacrifice space and layout for the second language needed. Furthermore, it will be easier for the readers as well.
5. Explore a variety of media is used within the context of branding or transmedia storytelling. Does variety dilute the effectiveness of an advertising campaign or story?
Transmedia a story that unfolds across multiple media outlets and platforms using current digital technology, and in which a portion of the end users take an active role in the process of expansion. transmedia is a great mechanism for engagement, as it makes it possible to tell a brand’s story in a participative manner that involves and excites the audience. Transmedia communication is able to generate high-interest brand content. Here is a video about a case study done on the campaigns done to promote The Hunger Games franchise.
